Noguchi table, the work of designer Isamu Noguchi, is very well known. Many fans of the table come from all over the world. But you know who is Isamu Noguchi?  He born from a Japanese poet father and writer mother of a Scottish – American, on the 17th of November 1904. He also lived in both countries, so many of his works reflect a fusion of Eastern-Western culture. Not only in the field of furniture, he also produced great works of other well-known until now.

Great works of exceptional Isamu Noguchi include playgrounds and plazas, furniture and gardens, stone-carved statues, and Akari paper lamps. So delicate that they can be folded and inserted into the envelope. He also designed stage sets for dancer-choreographer Martha Graham, who as much influence on him as his mentor, Constantin Brancusi.

Isamu Noguchi is known to be very intelligent, articulate, and sensitive. He is magic. For World War II, at the dark period of U.S. history, he voluntarily entered the relocation camps for Japanese-Americans in Arizona. For seven months he could not get permission to go from the camp.

“I’m finally free,” said Isamu Noguchi once released from the camp. He then decided to become an artist only.

How is relationship with Herman Miller, owner of furniture company Herman Miller so Isamu Noguchi submit the his design of table to be produced by Herman Miller? Their relationship came when Isamu Noguchi’s designs are used to illustrate an article written by George Nelson titled “How to Create Table.” The design of Noguchi coffee table was introduced in 1947 and reissued in 1984.

Previously, namely in 1940, he first designed a coffee table for Robsjohn Gibbings. But the design of Noguchi’s coffee table design claimed by Gibbings to be his work. Finally, Noguchi redesigned the coffee table design. He created the base out of inter locking, identical wood pieces set at right angles. The signature of Noguchi put on table as proof of the original table. After working with Herman Miller, Noguchi’s signature is always on the each unit table produced.

The other Isamu Noguchi works are the UNESCO building in Paris, five fountains for the Supreme Court Building in Tokyo, and high-relief mural for the Abelardo Rodriguez Market in Mexico City.

Not only the Noguchi coffee table. A lot of good furniture design has been created by Isamu Noguchi. In 1948, for example, he produced the first couch, an incorporating overstuffed sofa with metal legs and a smooth flow freely.

Knoll Associated produced Noguchi stools between 1954.  The stools really shook a little in all directions. It is made of two wooden circular plates attached with stainless steel dowel. Feces production stopped in 1959, but was revived recently by the Noguchi Museum Store. All of Isamu Noguchi’s furniture is biomorphic in nature.

Isamu Noguchi died in 1988 after a brilliant career spanning more than six decades. That’s the life of Isamu Noguchi, the designer of noguchi table or noguchi coffee table that is a favorite of consumers worldwide.
